Frequently asked questions about the CLAiT suite are added as they arise.

1 New CLAiT
a) How many units are available for New CLAiT?
There are eight OCR devised units available.  These are listed below:

b) How do IC3 units (Certiport) fit in?

OCR offers the option of adding three vendor specific IC3 units, provided by Certiport as optional CLAiT units.

As this is based on the OCR - Certiport contract, CIE does not offer these options at the moment, but talks with Certiport are planned. However, achievement of Microsoft Office Specialist or IC3 tests can be used to claim the appropriate unit within the CLAiT suite as prior evidence of achievement.

c) What are the fees for the CLAiT Suite?

    2 CLAiT Plus
a) How many units are available for CLAiT Plus?
There are eight units available.  These are listed below.

b) How do MOS units (Certiport) fit in?

OCR offers the option of adding a number of Microsoft Office Specialist units, provided by Certiport, as optional CLAiT units.

3 CLAiT Advanced
a) How many units are available for CLAiT Advanced?
There are seven units available. These are listed below.

4 Administration
a) Will centres have to use Computer Based Assessment (CBA)?
No.  Although CBA offers benefits of automatic certification (without the need for submitting a claim), and reduction in the amount of local assessment, this form of assessment is entirely optional.

5 Certification
a) Can a candidate be awarded a certificate for each unit?
Yes. All units are eligible for certification.
b) How many units must a candidate complete to achieve a qualification?

6 e-portfolios
a) Is there a demo of how the e-portfolio would work?
A demonstration showing how an e-portfolio will work will be available shortly.
b) Is there an additional cost to centres for the use of e-portfolios?
Detailed information regarding this facility will be available shortly.
c) Is the e-portfolio provision available for all 3 qualifications and for all units within?
Yes.  Work for all units within all 3 qualifications can be submitted using an e-portfolio.
d) Can the results of vendor tests (Microsoft or IC3) be submitted using an e-portfolio?
Yes.  By scanning in the temporary result sheet produced at the end of a test or by scanning the original vendor certificate and submitting via an e-portfolio.
e) As a centre will I need special software to use the e-portfolio provision for the assessment and remote moderation of candidate work?
No
f) Is there a user guide for centres on how to administer the e–portfolio provision?
A user guide will be available shortly.
g) Is local assessment still required when submitting work via the e-portfolio route?
Yes, if the assessment method chosen requires local assessment.  A checklist for local assessors will need to be completed showing when and where a candidate has incurred an error.
h) How is local assessment evidenced for work submitted via the e-portfolio route?
By means of a checklist for use by local assessors showing when and where a candidate has incurred an error.

7 e-assessment
a) Which units are available for assessment using Computer Based Assessment (CBA)?

b) Do centres require special software for the Computer Based Assessment (CBA) units?
Centres wishing to offer Level 1 units assessed via CBA will not require additional special software.

Centres wishing to offer Level 2 units assessed via CBA will require additional software to enable the assessment to run.  Details on how and where to obtain this software will be made available shortly.
c) Will centres need to submit the results of the CBA units to gain certification?
No.  Certification for the CBA units within the revised CLAiT suite will be automatically issued if successfully achieved.

a) What are the guided learning hours for the revised suite?

9 Registration
a) How do we register candidates for CLAiT units?

10 Resources
a) Are there any technical requirements to be met?
Centres wishing to utilise the CBA facility for Units 1- 3 at Level 2 will need to fulfil specific hardware and software requirements. The details of such requirements will be made available shortly.

Centres wishing to submit candidate evidence via e-portfolio will need access to Internet Explorer 5 as a minimum.

11 Sample Materials
a) Where can I obtain samples assignments from?
Sample assignments are available from the regional representative of CIE or the OCR website by following the links below and going to Key Documents.  Please note there will be 2 files required; one containing the data files needed for the assignments and the other containing the assignment instructions.

15 WebWise
a) Is BBC Becoming WebWise still available as part of the revised New CLAiT?
Yes.  However, BBC Becoming WebWise has now been renamed the WebWise Course. Any candidate achieving this can claim it as evidence of achievement towards Unit 8, Online Communication at Level 1.

16 MOS Units
a) Can I achieve a certificate or diploma simply using Microsoft Office Specialist Tests?
Yes.  At Level 2, CLAiT Plus, both the certificate and the diploma are able to be achieved.

17 Communication
a) Who do we communicate with on CLAiT?
All communication on CLAiT should be directed to CIE and not OCR. As a number of documents (e.g. tutor handbook, sample assignments) have been provided by OCR, they point out the OCR contact opportunity. This should be ignored and all contact should be made to CIE directly, either via email international@cie.org.uk or telephone +44 1223 553554.
